Counselor and Psychotherapist

Location: Georgia

María believes that every human being has the capacity to heal. She is passionate about helping her clients find hope and accompanying them on their journey to healing.  She provides individual counseling to children, adolescents, families, and adults. Her clients include couples preparing for marriage or the birth of a child and mothers working through the challenges of pregnancy, post-partum, or pregnancy loss. She has also worked with college and graduate school students, consecrated women, and priests. Many of her clients seek help managing a life transition, processing grief, or healing from trauma.  She also treats anxiety and depression.

Her hallmark is fostering a deep therapeutic alliance with her clients through active listening and non-judgment. She sometimes incorporates play, art, and sand tray work with clients open to these. She also has experience with doing parts work.

As a former special education teacher, she has a heart for children and adults with learning differences and ADHD.

María has an M.A. in Psychology from UVa (1987) and earned an M.S. in Clinical Mental Health from Divine Mercy University in 2019. She has been married to Alex for over thirty years and is a mom to five adults and grandma to three young children. She enjoys reading, hiking, traveling, and Stott Pilates.
